WBM Overshirt

Happy birthday my love!! Today Ribi is 40, can you even believe that? the big 4! It feels like yesterday when we were 18 and kissing in highschool. Time flies and you have become the best possible version of yourself. I mean, look at those pics, you are so handsome and beautiful inside and out! I am so lucky to have you by my side and although you are wayyyyy too old now, don't worry, I will only make fun of you for a few months, then I'll be joining the club lol.

¡Hoy Ribi cumple 40! Cómo es posible que el tiempo haya volado así de rápido, ¡pero si ayer teníamos 18 y nos íbamos besando por el insti! Si ya eras genial entonces, ahora eso se multiplica por mucho, porque te has convertido en la mejor versión posible de ti mismo, guapísimo por dentro y por fuera, y si no me crees mira estas fotos. Me hace muy feliz tenerte a mi lado y, aunque ya estés muuuuy viejo, don't worry, que solo me voy a meter contigo durante unos meses, y después ya me uno al club también jajaja. Per molts anys! T'estimo!

So, these will be the last pictures on your 30s, and thanks to Christina you got the hottest look to say farewell to the 3. Because, ladies and gentlemen, this shirt/jacket/overshirt or whatever you want to call it has been my latest test for Wardrobe by Me!

Estas serán tus últimas fotos en los treinta, y gracias a Christina podrás despedirte del 3 por todo lo alto con un look super top. Porque señoras y señores, esta camisa/chaqueta/sobrecamisa o cómo queráis llamarlo ha sido mi último tester para Wardrobe by Me.

I don't need to tell you how much he loves it, because his smile speaks for itself. It is a very warm shirt, or a lightweight jacket, or both. Mine looks more like a jacket because of the fabric choice, but you should see the ones from the other testers too. I totally want to make another in a plaid flannel for that lumberjack look!

No hace falta que os diga que le encanta, porque se le nota en la cara. Es una camisa muy cálida, o una chaqueta ligera, o ambas cosas. Mi versión tiene más aspecto de chaqueta por la tela elegida, pero deberíais echar un vistazo a las versiones de las demás testers para ver su versatilidad. Me muero de ganas de hacerle otra con una franela de cuadros, estilo camisa de leñador.

The pattern is the new Overshirt by Wardrobe by Me that was just released. Sewing shirts makes me nervous every single time. But then the instructions are very clear and the process always goes more smoothly than I initially though. Plus, this fabric was really easy to sew.

El patrón es el Overshirt de Wardrobe by Me que acaba de salir a la venta. Coser camisas me pone un poco de los nervios cada vez... pero enseguida se me pasan una vez supero la pereza y me pongo a ello. Las instrucciones son muy claras y no resulta nada complicado. Además, esta tela se cosía taaaan bien.

Oh the fabric. We love this fabric. It is a wool flannel that I bought in my favourite Danish shop Meter Meter. 100% wool. Super warm. And it was a designer dead stock which kind of makes me feel good about more sustainable choices. It is soft and cozy and has that tiny bit of itchiness that reminds you that you are wearing a nice natural wool, but without being too itchy or uncomfortable.

Enamorada me tiene esta tela. Es una franela de lana que compré en Meter Meter. 100% lana. Super cálida, y era un resto de stock de alguna marca de ropa, por lo que resulta una elección más sostenible al pensar que no ha sido fabricada expresamente para que yo la cosa, ¿verdad? Es muy agradable, y tiene ese punto de picorcillo típico de la lana que me encanta. Solo lo justo, sin picar demasiado ni ser incómodo.

I made size M and the only adjustment was to shorten the sleeves by 3 cm or so. I used metal buttons that luckily look really good. My town has a very poor button selection available, and I always end up running for buttons at the last minute. I mean, I do buy everything else online ahead of time, what's my problem with buttons! But anyways, these look great!

Cosí la talla M y la única modificación fue acortar las mangas unos 3 cm. Los botones son metálicos y menos mal que quedan bien. Mira que estoy acostumbrada a comprar todo online y con tiempo, pero con los botones siempre acabo corriendo a la mercería del pueblo. Y aunque me parece genial apoyar los pequeños negocios locales, su selección es limitada y no las tenía todas conmigo cuando los compré. ¡Pero quedan muy bien!

The pattern includes two options for welt or patch pockets. I made the welt pockets because that's what he chose, and because these look more jacket-like. Maybe I should have made the inner pockets in a more lightweight fabric, because I used the main fabric for everything and it got quite bulky. But hey, superwarm they are too.

El patrón incluye dos tipos de bolsillos, unos de parche para coser encima y los de tapeta, que son los que he hecho yo, porque me gustaban más para este estilo más de chaqueta. Quizás los hubiera tenido que hacer con una tela más ligera, porque utilicé la misma tela que el resto y abultan un poco, pero bueno, va a llevar la barriga super calentita jeje.

He has been wearing it non stop since I finished it, which is proof that he loves it! I have the feeling this will last a very long time and I might even steal it now and then hehe.

No se la ha quitado desde que la cosí. La usa tooodos los días, lo que demuestra que le encanta. Tengo la sensación de que la va a usar durante mucho tiempo e incluso puede que se la robe de vez en cuando.

Tropical Shirt

Two blog posts in one week, how crazy is that!
The new men's Tropical Shirt pattern by Wardrobe by Me is out and I had the pleasure to be part of the tester team. Both me and Ribi love the result. It is a short sleeved, relaxed fit Hawaiian/Cuban style shirt. The fact that it has no long sleeves with cuffs, and that this collar is more simple to sew, makes it so much easier and faster to make, which I of course love hehe.

Dos entradas en una misma semana, ¡qué locura!
Se va a notar que no he escrito el inglés y el español a la vez, porque no me apetece repetirme jeje.
Es viernes, estoy de buen humor y he encontrado un ratito para terminar la entrada. Además tenemos plan chulo para el finde y parece que va a hacer buen tiempo. Lástima que aún no haga calor como para que Ribi se ponga en manga corta y estrene la camisa de verdad, y no solo para las fotos. El pobre se me congeló un poco. Pero por mi y por WBM aquí se hace lo que haga falta jaja.

I made size M in a very lightweight cotton fabric from Merchant & Mills. It was love at first sight. Then I was hesitant during the process, doubting whether it would actually look good as a shirt. Finally, shirt was done. And it was love!

Como ya va siendo habitual, fui tester del último patrón de Wardrobe by Me que acaba de salir. La Tropical Shirt es la camisa perfecta para este verano y además se cose fácil, porque no tiene mangas largas con puños, y este cuello es más sencillo de coser que el de las camisas normales.

Then he arrived home, and tried it on while I was crossing all fingers hoping that it would fit. And it did! In such a perfect way!

Es una camisa informal y relajada, lleva un bolsillo en el delantero y unos cortes en los laterales del bajo. Por suerte le quedó clavadísima a la primera y tengo el visto bueno para coserle tantas como quiera. Hice la talla M, como de costumbre en WBM.

My husband was such a good sport. It was windy and he was freezing. That is what gave us the idea to wear a t-shirt underneath, just to freeze a little bit less.

Pues eso, el día de las fotos hacía una viento helado y lo tuve tiritando un rato. La tela es un algodón muy fino de Merchant & Mills. Y como era difícil encontrar botones a juego con ese verde, opté por unos metálicos.

And then it turns out that the shirt looks great like this too, open and showing the t-shirt and the Vulcan salutate lol.

Sí, somos un poco frikis por aquí. Que conste que yo no le pedí que se pusiera en plan vulcaniano, le sale natural jejeje. Lo que está claro es que la camisa también queda genial así abierta y con una camiseta debajo.

We first went to the forest for the photo session, but it was too much green on green. On our way I spotted this skater park and the grey background is great to make the shirt stand out.

Esta vez buscamos un fondo que no fuera verde, porque si no era demasiado verde sobre verde. Terminamos en una zona de skaters, y lo que suele pasar, que cuando empiezas a hacer fotos, también empieza a llegar gente. Suerte que no le importa demasiado.

I love the split hem. A little nice detail.

Volviendo a la camisa. Aquí los cortes laterales. Son un detalle chulo.

And on the back, it has two pleats to achieve the relaxed look.

Y en la espalda, dos pliegues.

WBM Men's Fleece Jacket

I just cloned my husband hehehe. I needed two models, and it will be amazing to have double husband love and care. I call them R1 and R2 and they have gotten along well so far, but our bed is definetely too small for three. Lol.

He clonado a Ribi. Necesitaba dos modelos, ¿y a que no será genial tener todo su amor multiplicado por dos? Los llamo R1 y R2 y de momento se llevan bastante bien... aunque sí que hay un problema... la cama es algo pequeña para los tres... jajaja.

Ok, back to reality. :-D. This post is not about two husbands, but about two jackets for the only one husband. I was part of the tester team for the latest realese by Wardrobe by Me, and let me tell you, the new Men's Fleece Jacket is just amazing! It is a sporty fleece jacket with two side and one inner pockets, raglan sleeves with extra seams for a better shaping, and includes the option of collar or hood.

Mejor volvamos a la realidad jeje. Esta entrada no va de duplicar maridos, sino de coser dos chaquetas iguales pero diferentes. Wardrobe by Me acaba de sacar su último patrón, la Men's Fleece Jacket, del cual he sido tester. Es una chaqueta deportiva pensada para forro polar o softshell, con dos bolsillos exteriores y uno interior, mangas raglán con costuras extra de arriba a abajo para darles una mejor forma, y también incluye la opción de cuello simple o capucha.

This is my first version. I used Polartec P-Stretch fleece, it looks like jersey on the outside, and the fleece is on the inner side. It is super warm and stretchy, perfect for this style. I bought it at Extrem Textil, a german shop that sells technical and sport fabrics from the big sport fashion manufacturers.

Esta fue mi primera versión. La hice con forro polar P-Stretch de Polartec. Por el exterior es como jersey, y el polar está en el reverso. Es muy elástica y cálida, perfecta para este estilo. La compré en Extrem Textil, una tienda alemana que vende telas técnicas y deportivas, muchas de ellas procedentes de los principales fabricantes de ropa deportiva.

It was a pleasure to sew and I of course had to go a bit coverstitch crazy hehe. I had the perfect color matching thread and it looks so great for this sporty look. I only had one cone of it, but thanks to this tutorial by Naii I was able to make smaller spools of thread out of it. I made size M and the only change was to shorten the sleeves 3 cm.

Disfruté mucho cosiéndola y, como no, me dio por usar la recubridora en todas las costuras posibles. Tenía el color exacto, aunque solo un cono, pero recordé un tutorial de Naii de como pasar de conos a carretes y me fue perfecto. Ahí es cuando de alegras de ser así de friki y no haber tirado los carretes vacíos jejeje. En fin, cosí la talla M y el único cambio fue acortar las mangas 3 cm.

The chest inner pocket is placed a bit too low here. That was solved during testing though, and the final version has the pocket in the perfect position.

El bolsillo interior en el pecho quedó un poco bajo. Pero se resolvió durante el tester y en la versión final está donde debería, como se ve en la chaqueta azul más abajo.

And now we come to version 2, this time in softshell!

Y aquí la chaqueta number 2! Esta es de softshell.

The pattern is also suitable for this material, but it needs to be taken into account that softshell fabric is less stretchy than fleece. Therefore, the pattern includes separate sleeve pieces, which are slightly wider on the forearm, to sew with this or other non stretchy materials. 

El patrón también es adecuado para este material, pero sí que hay que tener en cuenta que el softshell tiene menos elasticidad que el forro polar. WBM lo ha tenido en cuenta, y por eso el patrón incluye piezas distintas para las mangas que son un poco más anchas en el antebrazo, para coser con este material o cualquier otro que no sea muy elástico.

In a less stretchy fabric like softshell, the jacket will feel a bit tighter. This is not a problem at all, but something to be aware of. The fit here is perfect for my husband. It is a lightweight softshell that he plans on wearing with only a thin layer underneath, perfect for spring or summer. If I make him another one for autumm/winter (which he already requested) I will cut one size larger to be able to wear it with a thicker pullover underneath. Appart from that, this fabric only has crosswise stretch, so I did not need to shorten the sleeves, as opposite to the fleece version.

Al tener menos elasticidad, la chaqueta queda más ajustada. No es ningún problema, pero sí algo a tener en cuenta. Esta le va perfecta a Ribi. Es un softshell muy ligero que va a llevar solo con una camiseta debajo, perfecto para primavera o incluso verano, justo lo que él quería. Y como le ha gustado tanto, ya me está pidiendo otra para otoño. Cuando se la haga, seguramente la cortaré una talla más grande para que pueda llevar una sudadera debajo. Aparte de eso... como esta tela no tiene ninguna elasticidad a lo largo, no tuve que acortar las mangas.

The fabric that I used for this is also from Extrem Textil. It is called Softshell GTX and is a lightweight 3 layer softshell, water and wind resistant and breathable. The outside is blue and the inside a very bright yellow-green. I love the combination and that the inside is visible in the hood. He has already worn it to running and is super happy with it.

La tela también es de Extrem Textil. Se llama Softshell GTX y es un softshell ligero de 3 capas, repelente al agua, cortavientos y transpirable. Por fuera es azul y por dentro es de un amarillo-verde muy chillón. Me encanta la combinación y que el interior se vea en la capucha. La ha usado ya para ir a correr y está encantadísimo.

As you've seen, this is the hooded version. The fit is perfect! I used a matching cord with a double stopper, but he would only need to pull it tight in case of very extreme weather conditions, otherwise it stays in place as is.

Ya habéis visto que esta es la versión con capucha. ¡Le va perfecta! Le he puesto un cordón con un tope doble, pero le queda tan bien puesta que no creo que necesite ajustársela para nada, a menos que se dé el caso de condiciones extremas jejeje.

And here the inside view with all the pockets. I used the same fabric because I didn't have anything else that would match, but something lighter like jersey would also work.

Y aquí por dentro con todos los bolsillos. Usé la misma tela porque no tenía nada más que combinara, pero algo más fino como una tela de camiseta también hubiera ido bien.

Invisible zippers. I definetely should get an invisible zipper foot for my sewing machine... because I don't have one, and that makes it complicated to get a good finish. But anyways, if I show you the pocket open, it won't be that noticeable that, while the zippers don't look bad, they are not as invisible as they are supposed to be lol. But that's totally on me, because the instructions for the zippers are great, if you have the right presser foot.

Cremalleras invisibles. Está claro que me tengo que comprar el prensatelas, porque coserlas sin las herramientas adecuadas es complicado. Pero bueno, tampoco ha quedado tan mal, lo único que no son tan invisibles como deberían jeje... pero si os la enseño abierta se nota menos. Las instrucciones son muy claras, y para la próxima tendré el prensatelas y me quedará mucho mejor.

This time I only coverstitched with a single stitch, but I love how perfect the stitch is! Would never be able to look this good with my sewing machine! The pattern instructions don't mention to topstitch the sleeve seams, but I did anyway because I like how it looks.

En esta solo he hecho costuras simples, pero ¿y lo bien que queda con la recubridora? Nunca hubiese quedado así con la plana! En las instrucciones no se incluyen las costuras de las mangas, pero a mí me gusta más así, queda mejor acabado.

And that's it!! Hubby is more than happy and hasn't stopped wearing them since. A few more will come for sure! The pattern by WBM has just been released and will be on sale until end of the month, so don't miss your chance if you want to make the men in your life happy.

Paelias para el mister

Aquí estoy, escribiendo la primera entrada del año en febrero, ¡ya iba siendo hora!, y me estreno con una de Mr. Handmade porque por fin hicimos las fotos de la nueva sudadera favorita del mister. Este patrón mola mil.

Here I am, typing my first post of the year in February, it was about time! So, I am kicking off my 2019 blogging with a hoodie for hubby for Mr. Handmade. We finally took the pictures of his new favourite sweatshirt. And this pattern is really cool.

Es el Paelias de Kibadoo y tiene un diseño muy chulo. El delantero va partido para poder dar volumen extra en la parte del cuello.

It is Paelias by Kibadoo and has such great design features. The front is divided in two pieces to achieve the extra volume at the top.

La capucha es enorme y tiene su gracia, aunque queda un poco desbocado y se cuela el frío. Pero nada que no pueda solucionarse con un cuello negro super gustoso de lana merino que cosí hace años y está ya medio deshecho, pero que no se va a quitar hasta que le haga uno nuevo, y como las telas de lana merino cuestan lo que cuestan, pues me da a mi que va a tener que durar una buena temporadita más.

The hood is huge and so cool, but it's wide and lets the cold in. Not an issue when you have a warm and cozy merino wool neck warmer. I made it many years ago and it is falling into pieces, but he won't stop using it until he gets another one. And let's face it, merino is expensive. So dear, you'll have to use it a bit longer for now.

La tela es una sudadera perchada de Stoff & Stil muy agradable y calentita. Además, tenían el puño a juego exactamente del mismo color.

The fabric is a nice a warm brushed sweatshirt from Stoff & Stil. They also had the matching ribbing for the cuffs, which is so great!

Y como cordón para la capucha elegí una cinta ancha de algodón, de la misma tienda.

And for the string I chose a wide cotton ribbon from the same store.

Ya os he dicho que la capucha es enorme, ¿no? Pero bueno, ese cuello es muy original y me encanta. También hay la versión para mujer y para niños del patrón. En cuanto pueda me hago una para mí.

I already told you that the hood is huge, right? But still, that makes it so original and I love it. There is also the female and kid version of this pattern and I will be making one for myself as soon as I find the time.

Y no me enrollo más. A ver si consigo volver a publicar más a menudo.

Rebel again

Pues después de una Rebel, y de dos Rebels, viene la tercera Rebel. Cuando un patrón sienta perfecto, no te cansas de repetirlo. Esta vez con un toque diferente gracias a esta tela chulísima de Cal Joan.

After one Rebel, and after two Rebels, comes the third Rebel. When you love a pattern and your husband doesn't get tired of wearing it, you want to repeat it again and again. This time with a different look, thanks to this beautiful fabric.

A diferencia de la sudadera con capucha que os enseñé hace un par de días, aquí he hecho la versión sin capucha y sin bolsillo, que es la que ya incluía el patrón original antes de la actualización.

A couple days ago I showed you the hoodie version. This time I made it without hood or pocket, which is the original look already included in the pattern before the update.

¿Veis el fallo en esas rayas medio casadas? Qué rabia me dio ver que, por un par de cm, no me daba la tela para cortar las mangas en la misma dirección que el cuerpo. Lo veo cada vez que miro esas costuras raglán. Pero por lo menos pude casar el estampado más ancho. Lo que me llevó más tiempo fue sin duda decidir a qué altura quería la raya ancha en el pecho. ¡Es de esas tonterías que puede marcar toda la diferencia!

Are the missmatched lines too noticeable? I can't help but seeing it and it makes me nervous. I was a couple of cm short on fabric and wasn't able to cut the sleeves on the same direction as the body, so they are the other way around. Oh well... I least I was able to match the bigger stripe. And the truth is that choosing at which height on the chest to have that stripe was what took me longest of the whole process. Otherwise, this pattern is a really fast sew!

El patrón incluye una vista en la parte trasera, debajo del cuello, que queda genial... podría decir que lo omití expresamente, pero evidentemente se me olvidó coserla y no me di cuenta hasta que era demasiado tarde :-).

The pattern includes a facing for the neck on the back which looks great... I could say I ommitted it intentionally, but the truth is that I totally forgot to sew it :-).

Los puños me encantan, son de esos gorditos que ya vienen hechos. Los tenía hace tiempo y por fin les he dado uso. Y la tela es un punto de poliéster de Cal Joan precioso y super calentito. A Ribi le encanta y se sale de la típica sudadera para variar. Aunque todo tiene sus incovenientes... Creo que voy a empezar a usar mascarilla cuando cosa telas de estas sintéticas y que sueltan tanta pelusilla al cortar con la remalladora... Me ha pasado ya demasiadas veces que después de estar un rato cosiendo y respirando pelusillas me he sentido mareada durante un par de horas. No puede ser casualidad.

I love those cuffs. I used ready made cuff stripes, don't they look so cozy? The fabric is a sweater knit with fleece on the back, that I bought at Cal Joan. It is so beautiful and warm, Ribi loves it, and we achieved a different look than the classic sweatshirt. But... I have come to realize that everytime that I sew with fluffly polyester fabric on the overlocker, afterwards I feel sick for a couple of hours. Breathing all that polyester dust can't be healthy. Should I get a mask?

Y nada, os recuerdo que el patrón está de oferta durante unos días en la tienda de Wardrobe by Me. ¡Aún estáis a tiempo de coserla de regalo para estas fiestas!
